The Power of Wood

Completion requirements

ENG: This workshop introduces pupils (ages 12–14) to the concept of sustainability through the lens of wood. They will learn how trees act as carbon stores, why wood is an eco-friendly alternative to materials like concrete, steel, or plastic, and how modern technologies such as Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) make wood a strong and renewable building material. Through presentations, games, and a hands-on activity, pupils will connect everyday material choices to climate change and sustainable design.

GER: Dieser Workshop führt Schüler (im Alter von 12 bis 14 Jahren) anhand des Beispiels Holz in das Konzept der Nachhaltigkeit ein. Sie lernen, wie Bäume als Kohlenstoffspeicher fungieren, warum Holz eine umweltfreundliche Alternative zu Materialien wie Beton, Stahl oder Kunststoff ist und wie moderne Technologien wie Brettsperrholz (CLT) Holz zu einem starken und nachwachsenden Baustoff machen. Durch Präsentationen, Spiele und eine praktische Aktivität lernen die Schüler, den täglichen Umgang mit Materialien mit dem Klimawandel und nachhaltigem Design in Verbindung zu bringen.

ITA: Questo workshop introduce gli studenti (di età compresa tra i 12 e i 14 anni) al concetto di sostenibilità attraverso la lente del legno. Impareranno come gli alberi fungono da serbatoi di carbonio, perché il legno è un'alternativa ecologica a materiali come il cemento, l'acciaio o la plastica e come le moderne tecnologie, come il legno lamellare incrociato (CLT), rendono il legno un materiale da costruzione resistente e rinnovabile. Attraverso presentazioni, giochi e attività pratiche, gli studenti collegheranno le scelte quotidiane in materia di materiali al cambiamento climatico e alla progettazione sostenibile.
