Digital Twins and Sustainability
ENG: This workshop introduces students to digital twins and their role in promoting sustainability. Participants will explore how virtual models of real systems can reduce resource consumption, enhance learning environments, and accelerate innovation. Through the example of Smart Print Automation, students will learn how digital twins work, from CAD models to physical prototypes. The workshop highlights the impact of digital twins on sustainability goals, such as reducing energy use, material waste, and costs, while providing equal learning opportunities. Discussions will encourage participants to imagine new applications of digital twins and reflect on their role in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The aim is to raise awareness of sustainable engineering practices and inspire students to embrace a responsible digital future.
GER: Der Workshop führt Schülerinnen und Schüler in das Thema Digitale Zwillinge und ihre Rolle für die Nachhaltigkeit ein. Anhand des Beispiels Smart Print Automation erfahren die Teilnehmenden, wie digitale Zwillinge vom CAD-Modell bis zum physischen Prototypen funktionieren und wie sie den Ressourcenverbrauch reduzieren. Es wird gezeigt, wie Digitale Zwillinge zu Zielen wie geringeren Energie- und Materialverbrauch sowie niedrigeren Kosten beitragen und gleichzeitig gleiche Lernmöglichkeiten bieten. Diskussionen regen dazu an, neue Anwendungen für Digitale Zwillinge zu entwickeln und ihre Rolle bei der Erreichung der 17 Nachhaltigkeitsziele zu reflektieren. Ziel des Workshops ist es, das Bewusstsein für nachhaltige Ingenieurpraktiken zu schärfen und die Teilnehmenden zu einer verantwortungsvollen digitalen Zukunft zu motivieren.

Con l’esempio di Smart Print Automation, i partecipanti esploreranno come funzionano i digital twins, dal modello CAD al prototipo fisico, e come possano ridurre il consumo di risorse. Il workshop evidenzia l’impatto dei digital twins sugli obiettivi di sostenibilità, come ridurre l'uso di energia, materiali e costi, offrendo opportunità di apprendimento uguali per tutti. Le discussioni stimoleranno i partecipanti a immaginare nuove applicazioni dei digital twins e riflettere sul loro ruolo nel raggiungere i 17 Obiettivi di Sviluppo Sostenibile. L’obiettivo del workshop è sensibilizzare sulle pratiche ingegneristiche sostenibili e motivare gli studenti a costruire un futuro digitale responsabile.
